The Old Coach House is owned by North Stainley Estate, one of the oldest and most diverse farming estates in the country. The Estate’s core values centre around the importance of its customers, its local community and ultimately taking a sustainable approach to everything it does.

The Coach House Nursing Home is owner organisation for The Coach House Nursing Home. The local authority of Care Quality Commission for inspection etc. is North Yorkshire and it has been rated as Good by CQC. The Coach House is a family run care home providing high quality residential, nursing and palliative care services for up to 42 elderly clients. People in care homes receive accommodation and nursing or personal care as single package under one contractual agreement. CQC regulates both the premises and the care provided, and both were looked at during this inspection. We saw people were provided with a choice of healthy food and drinks which helped to ensure their nutritional needs were met.

Close links are maintained with a number of local taxi companies who offer disabled access vehicles that can enable our clients to continue participating in everyday local community life. We utilise the services of a fully equipped disabled access mini bus for regular outings. We spoke with four visitors, seven people who used the service and some of the staff on duty. Several people who lived at the home were able to tell us about their experience. Everyone told us they were satisfied with the care they or their relative received.

I want to thank you for looking after my mother in your home as this makes a huge difference to me knowing that she is in such a wonderful homely environment. The accomodation itself is always very clean, pleasant and well kept. Mum especially enjoys many hours sitting in the consevatory in the sunshine looking out on the beautiful gardens. My special thanks to all the staff that always show such a warm, kind, caring and professional approach to my mother and to our family when we visit. The Coaching House Nursing Home is a residential home for people who live in care. The provider had a system in place for responding to people's concerns and complaints. People were regularly asked for their views and there were effective systems in place to monitor and improve the quality of the service provided.

The nearest Bus Station is Phoenix Business Park which is a 26 minute walk from the care provider. The nearest Food Shop is Jensen's Cooperage which is a 20 minute walk from the care provider. Level access is maintained throughout the building aided by two passenger lifts serving the upper floors. Wide corridors and room doors assist those clients needing wheelchair access. Bathrooms with electric hoist facilities and level entry showers are all conveniently located as are the disabled toilets.

The service had in place policies and procedures covering medication. This made sure that people received their medication as prescribed. We saw positive interactions between people and staff and people told us they were happy and felt well cared for.

We spoke with the Local Authority Contracts Officer and the Infection control nurse who informed us that they did not have any concerns about this service. Staff were receiving training on a regular basis and this was monitored by the manager. Medicines were administered by staff who were trained and assessed as being competent to do this. Appropriate checks of the building and maintenance systems were undertaken to ensure health and safety.
