Level access is maintained throughout the building aided by two passenger lifts serving the upper floors. Wide corridors and room doors assist those clients needing wheelchair access. We spoke with the Local Authority Contracts Officer and the Infection control nurse who informed us that they did not have any concerns about this service. Staff were receiving training on a regular basis and this was monitored by the manager. Medicines were administered by staff who were trained and assessed as being competent to do this. Appropriate checks of the building and maintenance systems were undertaken to ensure health and safety.

Close links are maintained with a number of local taxi companies who offer disabled access vehicles that can enable our clients to continue participating in everyday local community life. We utilise the services of a fully equipped disabled access mini bus for regular outings. We spoke with four visitors, seven people who used the service and some of the staff on duty. Several people who lived at the home were able to tell us about their experience. Everyone told us they were satisfied with the care they or their relative received.

An inspection occurred on November 11th, 2017 and was conducted unannounced. A second visit by the Care Quality Commission took place on 12 December 2017 and was announced. The Coaching House Nursing Home is a residential home for people who live in care. The provider had a system in place for responding to people's concerns and complaints. People were regularly asked for their views and there were effective systems in place to monitor and improve the quality of the service provided.

Risks to people's safety had been assessed by staff and regularly reviewed to ensure they contained up to date information. Care plans included information about how people preferred to be supported. Staffing levels were sufficient to meet people's needs and to enable them to do be supported in a way that they wished. Staff received support and training to give them the necessary skills and knowledge to meet people's assessed needs.

This provided a good overview of the quality of the service provided and meant the quality of the service was being kept under review. We saw from people's care plans that people were supported to live as independently as possible. Staff at the home had carried out an assessment of the needs of each person, and kept this under review, to enable appropriate care and support to be given. The care home is a large detached property situated in its own grounds. Accommodation is provided over three floors and there are two passenger lifts for people who have reduced mobility.
